The Heat is On!

A reminder that CVWG can be found on the web at www.CVWG.art.

Our Guild Needs Your Help

As we start the 2nd half of 2020, your Guild leadership is starting to look at filling officer roles for next year. We usually need 1 or 2 new officers every year to replace any Director who may choose not to continue. With hopeful news appearing almost nightly about having a COVID vaccine ready in coming months, we will all want some focus to restart our Guild activities. If you would consider joining the leadership, please email our President, Linda Verhagen, send an email to any of our current leadership, or send a note to our webmaster.

Thanks to Juror Steve Rogers, NWS, AWS for selecting my painting. With 369 entries and 82 being accepted, it is an honor and I am thrilled.

Member Julie Read reports that her watercolor, “Tied Up In Knots”, above, was selected by Aqueous 2020 Juror Brienne Brown, NWS, for this year’s West Virginia Watercolor Society National Juried Exhibition, August 6-31. The online exhibition can be viewed at www.wvwatercolorsociety.org after August 5, 2020. To achieve the texture, Julie gessoed 300# watercolor paper for her painting ground. For more information, please contact Julie Read by email or at 540-539-6125. Julie’s website can be viewed at www.julieread.net.

Member Peg Sheridan says that her Featured Artist Show at Cabell Gallery in Lexington has been extended through July.  She also reports that …

…In both my studio work and my plein air work, I am giving myself a new challenge to work on in each of my paintings.  In the painting, “A favorite Spot”, I challenged myself to leave white spaces woven throughout the piece and to focus only on what drew me to the scene, a red chair beneath some pine trees.  Another day, I painted the Cowpasture River.  My goal was to paint the trees in a single shape in my first wash, then add details later.

Some of Peg’s other art and her offering of classes and other services can be viewed on her website at http://www.pegsheridan.com/.

Another Online Resource

Member Judith Ely wants all Guild members to know that one of CVWG’s workshop leaders, Linda Baker, NWS, AWS-df, now has her own website, www.lindabakerartmentor.com/, offering art mentoring and critique.

This offer is great for online support for watercolorists.
