A reminder that Central Virginia Watercolor Guild is found online at www.CVWG.art.

The photo at the top of this post features the art by member artist Cecilia Pan who will lead our program for our January 22 Member Meeting with a demonstration of Chinese Calligraphy on rice paper.

Reminder: Renew Your Membership (or Join!) for 2024

Our website has been updated to accept Membership Dues for the 2024 calendar year. Your Dues payment helps your Guild leaders to provide engaging programs with renowned professional artists, actively work within the Central Virginia communities, and meet our goals to provide arts awareness and education to the public.

Throgh our website, you can join or renew your membership using a credit or debit card through PayPal. Alternately, you can join or renew through USPS mail. Look for the following top and left-side menu options on our website (www.CVWG.art).

Our 2024 dues are $45 for an individual or $50 for a couple living at the same address. Please contact our Treasurer, Robin Kuzen, regarding membership or dues and our Webmaster, Mark Fitzpatrick, regarding our website or PayPal issues.

Our Next Member Meeting is Monday, January 22

The Guild will hold its first meeting of 2024 on Monday, January 22. As is our common practice most months, we will meet at the following times:

  • 12:30 PM– Social Time
  • 1:00 PM– Start of Short Business Meeting
  • 1:30 PM– Program
  • 3:00 PM– Adjourn

Our program will be led by member artist Cecilia Pan with a demonstration of Chinese Calligraphy through basic strokes on rice paper using pointed brushes and watercolor paints. Participants will practice various strokes that will lead to the ability to build a few simple Chinese characters on rice paper as a final art project.

The Guild will provide all attendees with rice paper for this hands-on demo.

Members should bring:

Watercolor paints: To simulate black ink, mix either French ultramarine or Cobalt blue with burnt sienna or burnt umber.
Brushes: use size 12+ pointed round or Chinese brushes which is optional.

Our Challenge! topic for January is “New Beginnings…in your internal and external life”. Everyone is invited to bring a single, new piece of art you have created to express this topic. You will have a chance to share your inspiration and your art with our Guild during the short business meeting. Please see our Meetings, Programs, and Challenge! web page for more information on how our Challenge! is run.

You can read all about our meetings for 2024 on our Member Meetings, Programs, and Chalenge! page on this site.

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers keep our Guild humming and infuse the atmosphere with camaraderie and creativity. No experience is needed, just a bit of enthusiasm! Our Guild benefits from having a variety of people and talents contributing.

Of special note, CVWG’s Webmaster for the past 4+ years, Mark Fitzpatrick, has announced that he will be “retiring” (again!) at the end of our 2024 program year. We are seeking a volunteer to mentor under Mark’s tutelage to then assume the full role. The current and future generations of web publishing tools make this easy; no programming is required.

CVWG still needs 2 or 3 other volunteers in 2024 to help build the success of CVWG and become our new Program Directors. We ask you to consider donating some time and talent to our Guild. Send an email to CVWG President, Karen Schwenzer.

Our Website is Getting Updated

Be sure to check out our CVWG website (www.CVWG.art) for a complete view of 2024 meetings, programs, and Challenge! topics. The site will update throughout the year.

Members can start or refresh their contribution in our Members’ Gallery by sending an email with attached photo of original art to our webmaster, Mark Fitzpatrick.
